Dealing with guilt
Genesis 3:7-8; Revelation 3:20
How does guilt impact our lives? Mainly in one of the two extremes. Either thinking you could never be good enough or trying so hard to make up for the wrongs. The first makes us depressed and prone to addiction; the second makes us anxious and self-righteous.
The first humans’ reaction to guilt set the pattern for all of us, shame, then cover and hide. That’s what Adam and Eve did and that’s what we all do.
Covering is when you try to cover your bad deeds with good deeds. To God, it’s like spraying perfume on manure. Hiding is when you avoid God and God’s people at all costs.
But God neither hides nor makes a cover for sin. Instead, He comes to you with a trash bag to sweep them up and carry them out Himself. That’s what He did when He sent His own Son to earth to carry out all of our sins.
Jesus is always at the door waiting for you to open so that He can come in and take all the guilt and shame and leave you clean. Will you open the door or ignore Him?

Grace is the heavenly resource behind all of God's promises.
Faith is the simple means of accessing that grace
