The Power of the Bible

By Hope on Nov 7, 2013
From the series Prayer Letter

Scripture: Jesus told him, "The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4 Jesus responded, "The Scriptures also say, 'You must not test the Lord your God.'" Matthew 4:7 "Get out of here, Satan," Jesus told him. "For the Scriptures say, 'You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.'" Matthew 4:10
In the Beginning
God has made an amazing universe. We read that "the Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. ... When He spoke, the world began! It appeared at His command" (Psalm 33:6, 9). In His account of the Good News, Jesus' friend John declared, "In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through Him, and nothing was created except through Him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone" (John 1:1-4). Jesus was no ordinary man, but actually took part in creating the universe.
Power of the Word
God's people had been told long ago about the power of His Word: "'It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it'" (Isaiah 55:11). Because of that power, God knows all about everything He has made: "the Word of God is alive and powerful. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all Creation is hidden from God. And He is the one to Whom we are accountable" (Hebrews 4:12-13).
Trust in the Word
The Apostle Paul taught the young pastor Timothy the importance of being grounded in Scripture: "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right" (2 Timothy 3:16). Therefore, we rejoice in knowing that "The instructions of the Lord are perfect, the decrees of the Lord are trustworthy. The laws of the Lord are true; they are more desirable than gold" (Psalm 19).
Prayer, Care and Share Jesus
* The Prayer, Care and Share Jesus (PCS) series is a guide to help you PRAY and CARE for others and SHARE your faith in Jesus *
“Learning God’s Word” Matthew 4:4, 7 & 10
One of the main ways through which God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) reveals Himself to us is through the Bible. We believe that all Scripture (the words in the Bible) has been inspired by the Holy Spirit, and can be read as if it is God speaking to us.
In today’s passage, we see that Jesus quoted Scripture to satan when He was tempted, thereby refuting satan's words. Finally, satan left Him.
This demonstrates that knowing what is written in the Bible is critical for us as believers. The same is true for someone you may have led to Christ. Do your best to ensure that the new believer has a Bible, in his/her own language if possible. And, you can even help to make sure they know how to start reading the Bible.
The Bible can be difficult and confusing for a new Christian. This can happen if they start reading through the Old Testament -- it will be a long time before they get to the gospels, and start reading about Jesus, who is central to their new faith.
Here are a few simple steps you can use to encourage your new believer in getting to know the Bible:
• Suggest they start with the book of Luke followed by the book of Acts.
• You can then follow with Genesis and Exodus, then Matthew.
• Then suggest a Psalm each day, and at the same time, the gospel of John.
• If possible, get together regularly to discuss what they are reading.
• Make sure the believer understands the abbreviations of the books and how to use the index to the Old and New Testament.
The “Creation to Christ” story gives a very simple overview of the main message of the Bible.
You should also explain to your believer the power of the Word in speaking and praying. Give simple but powerful examples, such as Psalm 23 and John 3:16.
Your PRAY NOW Challenge: "Lord, I pray that You will enable me to explain Your Word in a clear way to any new believer You put in my path. Speak through me as I explain Your Word. In the Name of Jesus. Amen"

SISTERHOOD

Nou York - Winter 2013

My dear sis, I thought it's the dog that's supposed to chase you and not the opposite. Good job though, glad you gave up!!

love, ME.

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

"Wrecking Ball"

We clawed, we chained our hearts in vain
We jumped never asking why
We kissed, I fell under your spell.
A love no one could deny

Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

I put you high up in the sky
And now, you're not coming down
It slowly turned, you let me burn
And now, we're ashes on the ground

Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you
I can't live a lie, running for my life
I will always want you

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me

I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
And instead of using force
I guess I should've let you win
I never meant to start a war
I just wanted you to let me in
I guess I should've let you win

Don't you ever say I just walked away
I will always want you

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me

I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

Are Your Circuits Too Busy?

“The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.” (Luke 8:14 NIV)

You can’t hear God if your mind is crowded with other thoughts or concerns — particularly worries, plans, and activities. If you’re always listening to the radio or the tv, when God calls you, the circuits are going to be busy. You’ve got to eliminate the distractions.

Jesus says in Luke 8:7, “Some other seeds fell where thorn bushes grew up and choked the plants” (CEV).

The kind of soil with weeds in it was actually planted with crops and begins to grow. But as it grows, weeds grow up around it, and the weeds begin to choke out the life of the vegetable or the plant, so it never bears fruit.

Here’s what Jesus says is the meaning of Luke 8:7:The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature(Luke 8:14 NIV).

There are three things that choke out hearing God:

Worry. Worries are weeds. When you’re so busy with the problems and pressures of daily living, it makes it harder to hear God.

Riches. You can be so busy trying to pay your bills, so busy trying to get out of debt, so busy trying to make more, and so busy making a living that you don’t make a life.

Pleasure. There’s nothing wrong with pleasure. But God said that when you’re so busy pursuing fun, you miss him and his plans for your life.

You don’t have to cultivate weeds. They grow automatically, don’t they? In fact, weeds are a sign of neglect. If you see weeds in your yard or garden, it means you’re not tending your yard or garden. The weeds in your spiritual life are a sign that you’re neglecting time with God.

When all the circuits are busy, you need to get quiet.

Talk It Over
  • What are the distractions in your life that keep you from spiritual growth?
  • How can you eliminate those distractions?
  • How much of your day is spent in silence? What would change about your life if you made it quieter?

R.I.P NELSON MANDELA

LET GO

It's time to LET GO of that hurt and release that pain. Your tears have served the ground for far too long. It's time to practice that smile daily, and it's time for you to LET GO of the things that are stripping your heart of its happiness. You can't HEAL by going back to the hurt, and you can't receive your future by holding on to your past. You have to learn how to stop pressing reply on the things that need to be deleted from your life. Stop getting upset with God for not closing a door that YOU choose to keep opened. You can't get your life together by staying involved with the things that are tearing your life apart. Why complain about a situation that you aren't willing to change. Sometimes we can't control getting hurt, I understand that, but rehearsing the same pain is always choice. Driving down the same road that led you no where, IS A CHOICE. Living that same lifestyle that led you to heart break, IS A CHOICE. Giving your trust back those who have abused it, IS A CHOICE. You might not be in control of what they give you, but you're always in control of what you accept. Don't live life hurt, you're too strong for that.

Katy Perry - Roar (my favourite song of 2013)

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready 'cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

[Chorus]
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar...

Ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar, ro-oar

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You’re gonna hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You'll hear me roar
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar...

R.I.P Paul Walker

It really sucks when someone dies young, worse enough if that person is able to bring a smile into the hearts of many worldwide. I'm a big fan of Fast and Furious franchise, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel made a great team. I don't wanna know how they will be able to twist the story to make the upcoming F&F movies worth a watch.
Rest In Peace Paul Walker.
