LOOKING FOR A PERFECT BALANCE

I'm at this place now (that am done with school and don't have a job yet) where i look around and wonder what am I meant to be? Am I doing the right thing by being here taking one step at a time, or should I be out there and do something with my life? I'm looking for a perfect balance because i don't want to land up doing something out of desperation and hate what i do nor do i want to be useless and do nothing with God's precious time. I hope i'll get my answers soon!!

Distractions

Deuteronomy 5:32-33

Horse trainers would often add blinders to the bridle of horses because they  believe these blinders, also called blinkers or winkers, keep the horse focused on what is in front of it, and encourage it to pay attention to the race rather than other distractions, such as crowds.

 

 Now, we are not a horse, but at times our hearts sure do wander and get distracted from what really matters. May be we could really benefit from some "soul-blinders."

 

At times we get distracted. We look around at what others are doing, being, and accomplishing and feel ineffective, unproductive, and unnecessary.

When does this happen? The times, when we look around instead of looking to God. We compare ourselves to others and, as a result, determine that our lives have great deficiencies. We feel like we don't measure up to those around us. We struggle.

 

The good news is that God doesn't leave us without direction or help. He gave us His Word, the Bible, to direct our thoughts, behaviors, hearts, minds and souls, to be our soul-blinders! Scripture tells us to be careful to do what the LORD our God has commanded us. Not to turn aside to the right or to the left. To walk in all the way that the LORD has commanded, so that we may live and prosper.

 

It’s only when we look to the LORD, to the plan He has for each one of us that we will prosper. Let us pray and ask God to give us soul-blinders. Because when we turn our eyes upon Jesus and look full in His wonderful face, the things of earth, the distractions, the comparisons, and stuff that causes us to lose our focus, will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

Hardships For Hope's Growth

Romans 5:3–5; John 11:3-6

 

Through hardship, our hope will grow. That almost sounds contradictory. It seems the best hot house for hope would be a trouble-free life, without threats or storms. Everything would be nice and tidy and clean. But that is not the case. The best place for hope to grow, believe it or not, is actually in adversity.

 

Paul is writing to the Christians in Rome, and he is using the words "problems" and "trials" in the same paragraph as "how dearly God loves us". But wait. If God loved us, wouldn't He remove the problems and the trials? Maybe, and maybe He won't. That is up to God, according to what needs to happen in your life.

 

When Lazarus, a personal friend of Jesus', was ill, his sisters Mary and Martha sent word to Him. The Bible tells us that when Jesus heard this news, He intentionally delayed His trip. So by the time He got to Bethany, Lazarus was already dead.

Yet the Bible includes an interesting detail that so although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days.

 

Jesus waited, because He wanted to do something even greater than what they wanted. They wanted a healing. But He wanted a resurrection.And the big picture, the ultimate purpose, is God's glory, not our happiness.

 

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
